Most people ask this question, SO, ...... no you do not have a blond moment!
1. Match to Match
Unless you’re going for a specific theme, it’s important to coordinate your outfits without your group all wearing the exact same thing. All stripes, dots, stripes or all white can be painfully overpowering in your final image. Give the idea a more modern spin by picking two to three colors that complement each other, or wear different shades of the same color. Spice it up with a favourite color, like blue, and have everyone wear just a small touch of that. You can even use jewellery, hair clips, flower etc., with those colors to match up. That is a winner!
Finally, try to avoid having just one person wear a completely different color, especially when that color is very bright or in stark contrast to the rest of the family. This draws the attention just to that person instead of unifying the group. Avoid writing or pictures on clothing it take the attention of your faces!
2. Something out of place
It’s important to factor in your shoot location when planning your outfit. You’ll show up very differently when photographed against a plain neutral backdrop than when you’re taking photos in a bright autumn forest!
And let’s not forget about patterns: If you’re wearing plaid or stripes when photographed against a brick wall, you’ll see more lines than a zebra in jail! The result? No one will be able to find your face, and the photos will not look nice at all.
Holiday tip: Try to plan your outfit around the colors in that design.
3. Loose, baggy clothing
Remember, these photos will be a reminder to your loved ones what you look like when they can’t be with you! Fitted clothes look much more polished and flattering than loose clothes, which can just make you appear bigger than you are. Yes i know, it is more comfortable..... but do you really want to follow that route? Check the fit of jackets, sweaters or collared shirts, and be sure that the collar won’t obscure your face when you sit down and that the shoulders won’t bunch up. Never thought of that did you? All clever tips and i would like to help you!
4. Something you've never worn before
We’re all about shopping, but don’t let the photo shoot be the first time you’re wearing new clothes! You’ll want to feel comfortable and confident. So make sure you wore it just a bit, before coming for the photo shoot.
Reach for your favourite outfit, the one that makes you walk taller and feel like you can conquer the world!
5. Just one more thing
Think about the types of poses you may do, and your location – You may not want to sit on the ground in a miniskirt or walk across the beach or park in heels. Finally, don’t forget to pack accessories like belts, shoes and hats that can turn a casual outfit into something classy.
Dry on ideas? Google is a fantastic resource with ideas and storyboards showing how to group colors and pick a variety of outfits that you’ll love to show off.
In conclusion…..
Be comfortable, be confident, and use common sense! When in doubt, ask your photographer (me) what works for them and what they’ve got planned for you. The advice can make all the difference between an uncomfortable photo shoot and a beautiful experience with photos you'll cherish for years. Remember i only want to give you the best. Yet I can only focus and shoot what is in front of the camera. If you are still not sure, please send me photos of the stuff and i can assist you and lead you in the right direction.
Props in Photography.
In my studio I have various sections, vintage, baby, family and boudoir sections to choose from with plenty props. Yes i have numerous props, some older than the other, and some new. I have a collection of old suitcases, hats, caps, glasses and other funny stuff to use in my photo-shoots. I also have various baby props, miniature bed, blankets, and baskets and, and, and....... plus I have loads of great outfits for the little one. Be sure to bring clothes that is pastel of color if you feel you want your own clothing displayed on the photo's. Soft pastels work well with baby's and smaller kids. I get to capture the true beauty of your children! Oh, but what about that nice Spiderman outfit? Ok, just remember you might miss baby in the photos and only see Spiderman!
If you would like a picnic shoot, remember to bring your own goodies it is not included in the price. Oh i saw a nice photo shoot you did with balloons, ......... nope it is not considered as props i supply you with. Please get your own and bring it with on the day of the shoot or arrange with me.
Additional Items to Consider Bringing to Your Photo Shoot
-
Don’t forget to bring a small portable mirror of some kind so you can check your make-up, hair, look, etc. during the shoot.
-
Depending on the style of the shoot, you may want to consider bringing a flesh colored thong & bra. This will allow you to wear such items under your garments without drawing attention to them in the photos.
-
It’s also a good idea to bring something to drink, such as bottled water. Especially if you are shooting outside. You may want to consider bringing a cooler with ice to pack drinks and anything else you wish to keep cool while shooting.
-
Depending on the length of your shoot, you may want to pack a light meal and/or a few snacks of some kind. Fruits are preferable to “candy” items and will help provide energy to keep shooting. Avoid eating/bringing anything that may stain your teeth. This includes chocolaty items. As with wardrobe, please bring more than you think you will need.
